Dr Cathy Hope is an Assistant Professor of Communication, and Director of the Play, Creativity and Culture Project within the Centre for Creative and Cultural Research in the Faculty of Arts and Design. The Play, Creativity and Culture Project is an applied research project that investigates sites of play to identify and explore those play elements that elicit forms of creative and collaborative engagement, and to examine the impact of these elements on players and their environments. The Play, Creativity and Culture Project aims to examine Canberra as a site of play, and to work with local individuals and institutions to make Canberra a ‘playful’ city – to inspire play in myriad, diverse and beneficial ways.
Cathy has written extensively on the organisational history and operations of Australian alternative cultural institutions including Canberra’s own Capital Region Farmers’ Market. Cathy was on the research team of a 2015 ACT Health Promotion Innovation Fund project entitled ‘Healthy Eating Habits in High Schools: A Pilot Study at UC High School Kaleen’. Her research considers the value framework and other cues that encourage engagement or play. Cathy has nearly twenty years of teaching experience, and is a leader in education at the University of Canberra.
